Sarah baartman cause of death

THE DEATH OF SARAH BAARTMAN (HOTTENTOT VENUS). The actual cause of death was unknown but syphilis was prevalent during this period and is most. The cause was described as “inflammatory and eruptive disease”. It’s since been suggested this was a result of pneumonia, syphilis or alcoholism.

Let’s take a look at her childhoo family and life story.

This includes her birth name, her cause of death, and the extent of any agency she may or may not have had in the events of her adult life. Once the Parisians got tired of the Baartman show, she was forced to turn to prostitution. Saartjie Baartman was twenty-one years old when she was taken from her native South Africa and shipped to London. I didn’t know her by her real name.

Rather, I knew her as the ‘Hottentot Venus. Not until recently, when I stumbled upon a historic film about her, was I filled with rage about the injustice she suffered in the. Soon after her death , the professor dissected her body.

She died poor and of shame and disease. The naturalist Georges Cuvier, who had danced with Baartman at one of Reaux’s parties, made a plaster cast of her body before dissecting it. Abraham had encamped at various times at the trees of Mamre, near Hebron (here referred to Kiriath Arba). This Black woman was promised a life of fortune, taken to Europe as a slave to be exhibited naked to men and women around Europe just because of her physique, the physique of a Black woman.

Nearly all South African memorials to Baartman spell the first name Sarah. Furthermore, scholarly writing on Baartman renders the name either Sara or Sarah. She belonged to the cattle-herding Gonaquasub group of the Khoikhoi. Her mother died when she was aged two and her father, who was a cattle driver, died when she reached adolescence. Sarah Baartman is the version written on her baptismal register.

THE HOTTENTOT VENUS is the most upsetting book I have read this year. Baartman doesn’t remain on the podium forever though, but this is the stage of a much more beautiful spiritual and creative story.

This narrative is called “Covering Sarah ” by Marasela. After her death , Cuvier dissected her body, and displayed her remains. Histories are an integral part of our present and futures.

Cause of death is unknown, though pneumonia, aggravated by alcoholism, is a strong contender. Rumors over the last several weeks surrounding Beyonce possibly writing and starring in a film about Baartman have brought the horrific story back into the attention of the world. Unfortunatedly, it was not seen in its raw, awful, and true light until many years after the death of Mrs.

African Queen: The Real Life of the Hottentot Venus ” by Rachel Holmes is a well-researche factual account of an amazing, though distressing story. The exact cause of her death is unknown. The master did not show her to a doctor, and she died from an Inflammatory disease.

The most obvious answer for the reason of her death is Syphilis. Even after death , she did not stop being a slave. Her master sold the body to the Paris Museum. Now rumours over a possible Hollywood film about Baartman ’s life have sparked controversy.
