How to describe colours to a blind person

It really just depends on the person. Every color has their own personality and there are more than different. Unsubscribe from Molly Burke? Since a blind person has no concept of colors, visually describing it to him is impossible. Here’s what you wanna do: Focus on what a blind person has and not on what he hasn’t.


We have five senses: sight, soun smell, taste and touch.

If you think about it, he’s only missing one. How do you explain color to someone without sight? It’s a challenge that renders all the normal visual frames of reference completely useless — you can’t say that green is the color of grass, or blue is the color of water, because they haven’t seen those things.

It might be helpful to consider using objects that are almost always a certain color. Rather than using words to paint things they can't see and thus won't be able to understan let's us play on their senses. To describe colors to the blind is not any easy task. Other than sight, they could smell, taste, hear and feel like ordinary human beings. Well, there are several parts to this question.


People who have been through elementary school, blind or not, have probably had the science class where color is explained technically. Describing color to a blind person would. If the blind person has experienced color before, maybe you can help them identify color by the process-of-elimination process. It is impossible to truly relate the qualities of colour to a totaly blind person - even those of us with full vision have trouble communicating the true nature of all colours - think of every colour you can and you will see the words we use to describe them are very limite we can see hundreds of shades of red but we would mostly only say, light dark, pale, bright before we had to start. Having no knowledge of what colors look like, or objects for that matter, you could not pose the idea, blue.

Most color vision problems are inherited and are present at birth. Approximately out of males and out of women are color blind.

What does a color-blind person see? A person with color-blindness has trouble seeing re green, blue, or mixtures of these colors. Many of you refer to the sun because we see it as yellow.


For example, a blind person would not understand the concepts of light and bright. Here is how I would answer: Yellow is like spring time.
