Aosis population

Alliance of Small Island States ( AOSIS ) is an intergovernmental organization of low-lying coastal and small island countries. A vast majority of our 350people look to the Reef and the sea around it for their livelihoods whether in fisheries or in tourism and to the land for produce. We are a small natural resource-based economy, with a small population , and as a result acutely vulnerable to exogenous shocks. AOSIS unlocks African knowledge through open access scholarly publishing, media and interaction development, Moodle LMS expertise, and online CPD learning.

With a population of 850citizens, Comoros is making significant efforts to develop a strategic framework for sustainable growth and green development that is climate resilient and low carbon. Significant progress has been made, particularly in the areas of health, education and poverty reduction. AOSIS has a membership of States and observers, drawn from all oceans and regions of the world: Africa, Caribbean, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean, Pacific and South China Sea. Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are a group of small island countries that tend to share similar sustainable development challenges, including small but growing populations, limited resources, remoteness, susceptibility to natural disasters, vulnerability to external shocks, excessive dependence on international trade, and fragile environments. AOSIS is a powerful alliance, but without adequate funding, their advocacy cannot lead to the needed to avoid the disastrous impacts of climate change.
